Supply Educators and Short Term Child Care Workers

We have an on-going need for Supply Educators and Short Term Child Care Workers to work, on an on-call basis, to provide high quality child care and early learning in settings that meet diverse needs and promote optimum physical, social, cognitive and intellectual development of the children in care.

Based on our continuous need for supply educators, we have implemented a Centralized Supply Educators and Short Term Child Care Workers List. You can now apply through one e-mail address to be considered for each of our programs.

SUPPLY EDUCATOR QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Previous experience assisting in early learning and care environments or working directly with children

  • Strong verbal communication skills (English, French is an asset)

  • Negative Police Record Check – Vulnerable Sector current in last six (6) months

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate

  • Experience working with others in a team environment

  • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job

  • The position requires frequent light to medium physical effort (lifting up to 20 kg or 44 lbs) bending stooping

  • Must be able to work outdoors for at least two (2) hours per day year –round; may be exposed to heat, humidity, cold.

  • Sensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differences

  • Experience working with children with special needs is an asset

  • ECE Diploma or degree from a recognized college or university is an asset

 RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

Meets children's needs for continuance of care, routines and education in the absence of regular caregiver; reassures children as needed; receives instruction from supervisor and plans to carry out planned activities with adjustments if necessary and requested.

Implements program plans on a daily basis as established or modified; helps set up areas for planned activities; provides a welcoming and nurturing environment through displaying affection, acceptance and support of each child; guides and assists children in activities, routines and transition times; teaches appropriate behaviours and skills through modelling, counselling, mediating, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.

Observes children's behaviour and level of participation; advises supervisor of observations, concerns and suggestions if requested.

Attends to physical needs of children; instructs and assists in washing, dressing, toileting, and eating to develop self-help skills; attends to diapering needs; feeds children and ensures special dietary requirements are met; ensures children are clean, dry and dressed appropriately.

Assists in maintaining a healthy and safe environment; reports accidents and serious occurrences to supervisor; observes and reports on illness and health conditions; monitors location for health and safety hazards.

Strong communication skills creates a language rich environment for the children.

Ensures positive communication with parents; greets parents and children; communicates at end of day about activities, children's participation and learning.

Other related duties as may be assigned by Head Early Childhood Educator 

Diploma in the field of Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Child and Youth Studies are assets

SHORT TERM CHILD CARE WORKERS QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
